Thanks to Instagram and every editing application out there for iPhones and Androids, you don’t really need any editing skills to make your photos look professional. It’s a great way to showcase your creativity and aesthetic and look at you.. gaining lots of followers because of it!
That’s wonderful and all but what happens when they go to your site to see unedited or poorly edited photos – all because the applications from your phone don’t translate to your desktop computer. The only way to create a cohesive look is to have the tools to do so!
Enter Bria Lear of Digital Darlings Creative! We all know Bria (or Queen B, as us girls like to call her) as the Editor In Chief of Framework Magazine, one of my besties and now the Founder and Instructor for Digital Darlings Creative Photoshop Bootcamp.
The number one goal of Digital Darlings – demystifying Photoshop! Editing photos is not as simple as clicking a button, it’s so much more. It’s understanding the concepts of lines, colours, balance, lighting, shapes, etc. Each tool provided by Photoshop has a purpose and learning what each of these are is quite a daunting task. It’s like opening the manual to your new camera and learning EVERY feature – whether you need them or not.
One of the best ways to learn Photoshop is to understand what you want to use it for. In my case and what DD teaches us – Style & Design Blogging.
Over the course of the 2 day weekend myself and 11 others learned Photoshop 101 as well as what it takes to post and edit photos pertaining to our sites and businesses.
I’m pretty on top of my Photoshop game as I learned it in school and have been editing all of my blog photos on my own but there was still a lot I didn’t know – or even knew that I needed to know. I learned a few new tools that I’ll definitely be using from now on and one of the biggest “Aha!” moments was learning all of the shortcuts for these tools. If I can save a few seconds on each edit and minutes overall on 1 photo, I can save a lot of time when you times that by 10-30 photos.
I highly reccomend the PS Bootcamp class if you don’t know Photoshop, need brushing up on your skills or want to get into design. All of us in the class used it for different reasons and left feeling our skills and sites were elevated.
You can sign up for the next PS Bootcamp classes HERE. You can save $105 if you book before October 15th and if a weekend class isn’t right for your schedule you can book Queen B for one on one classes. The next class is on November 15th and 16th.
Three of my favorite tools from day 2 of the PS Bootcamp was learning about the Liquify tool, Spot Healing Brush tool and changing hues on a specific part of the photo.
The first photo below is untouched. In the second photo I was able to make my hair and eyes bigger with clearer skin (lighting also changed).
The third photo is all about hue changes. I was taught how to change only the colour of my hair and I was hooked! I’ll officially be doing this whenever I want to change my hair colour.
Each PS Bootcamp also includes a catered 2 day lunch by Boy With A Knife. I won’t even try to convince you of how delicious the dishes were because it wouldn’t amount to how amazing they actually were!
